Student Athlete Heart Screen Test Detects HCM in Young Athletes
What is Student Athlete Heart Screen Test ?
The most valuable player heart screen is a quick screen of the heart using ultrasound images. These images can create a picture of your heart, which then can be measured to find any abnormalities. One such abnormality is a condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). This condition can cause sudden cardiac death in young athletes. It is believed to exist in 1 in 500 individuals and to cause one case of sudden cardiac death every three days. Once found, this condition is manageable, but there are rarely any symptoms that signal there is a problem. The most effective way to make sure your student is safe is to have a heart screen performed.
This is a self-payed procedure and the results will be directly mailed or emailed to the parents of the student within two weeks of the screening. This screening can help decrease the death of athletes by sudden heart attacks. This 15 minute procedure can save lives!
Now you can take a proactive approach and be screened for heart abnormalities quickly, conveniently and inexpensively. If detected early, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy can be managed and stopped from causing sudden cardiac death.
